1. Introduction to Topic

The learning process presents challenges that can be complicated when students face a variety of cognitive, emotional or physical difficulties. In this module we will address the main disabilities and/or learning difficulties that affect students in educational settings. We will explore conditions such as intellectual disability, ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties such as dyscalculia, dysgraphia or dyslexia and we will also look at sensory, motor and psychological and emotional disabilities. Finally, we will briefly discuss the impact of these conditions on academic performance and intervention strategies to provide effective support in the educational process.

3. Expected learning outcomes

  • Understand and classify learning difficulties to assess how personalised interventions, such as coaching and tutoring, can be used effectively to support each individual according to their specific needs.
  • Understand the impact of disabilities and learning difficulties on the educational process, including barriers to achieving educational standards. They will be able to develop and implement intervention and support strategies, with a particular focus on coaching and mentoring, to facilitate the learning and academic success of all students, promoting an inclusive and adaptive environment.
  • They will develop a comprehensive understanding of how these conditions affect the teaching-learning process and will be able to implement inclusive approaches, including the use of coaching and mentoring, to promote the academic success and well-being of all students.
